The KDS, also known as the “Kitchen Display System”, refers to the on-screen kitchen production system.
This tool, which is increasingly used and integrated into restaurant kitchens, replaces many non-digital processes, such as paper orders.
The aim for the restaurateur is to limit errors and streamline operations for more efficient production.
An order placed with a server, at kiosk or even through an application will be automatically sent to the KDS once it has been validated.
A new ticket appears in the kitchen. This ticket can be split and passed on to its associated production area. It contains all the key information needed to prepare the order (see below "A KDS with specific features for each restaurant").
Items are prepared or assembled for delivery (in the case of fast food). Tickets can be marked as "in progress" or "completed".
The waiter, delivery person or customer is informed of the status of the order. For each restaurant, a KDS with its own specific features!
